Latif, an Iraqi soldier, is forced to become the “fedai” (body double) of Saddam Hussein’s notorious playboy son Uday. With his family’s life at stake, he must learn to walk and talk like the ‘Black Prince’.
The Devil’s Double is based on the book by Latif Yahia and is set during Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait. Principal photography lasted nine weeks on this feature film directed by Lee Tamahori. The Devil’s Double stars British actor Dominic Cooper, whose masterful performance as both Uday Hussein and Latif has earned him much praise.
Pellikola’s Oliver Mallia served as Unit Production Manager leading a multinational crew of over 200 people. Over forty different locations were utilized around Malta and three interior sets were purposely constructed within a local warehouse. A number prominent hotels and luxury site were also utilized to depict Uday’s lavish lifestyle. The Devil’s Double was released at the Sundance Film Festival in 2011.
