Set in 1944, this German parody of the classic Das Boot stars comedian Atze Schröder. The Second World War is not over yet and Germany wants to send their last available submarine, the U-900, on a secret mission from Toulon to Warnemuende. Atze masquerades as the legendary Lieutenant Commander Roenberg. But the crew becomes suspicious when their commander starts issuing unconventional orders.
U-900 filmed on location in Malta for roughly 4 weeks, transforming the industrial town of Marsa into 1940s New York, while the Malta DryDocks stood in for Southern France’s Toulon Port. The production also adapted a submarine originally used in Jonathan Mostow’s U-571(2000), with the majority of the action occurring out at sea.
