Zejtune, the sophomore feature film by Maltese director Alex Camilleri, has secured world sales representation with Berlin-based company Films Boutique, recognised for supporting distinctive, international cinema.
Shot entirely in Malta, Zejtune stars Michela Farrugia and Nenu Borg. It follows Mar, a young woman preparing to sell her inherited farmland, until an encounter with an elderly folk singer challenges her resolve to leave the island.
The film is produced by Oliver Mallia for Pellikola (Malta), Alex Camilleri for Solari Productions (Malta), and Ramin Bahrani for Noruz Films (US), in co-production with One Two Films and ZDF/Das Kleine Fernsehspiel (Germany).
Pellikola founder and producer Oliver Mallia emphasised the importance of the partnership, noting:
“We are delighted to be collaborating with Films Boutique. Their track record and understanding of distinctive, director-driven cinema make them an ideal partner for Zejtune. We’re hopeful this collaboration will be fruitful for both the film and Maltese cinema more broadly.”
Zejtune is produced with the support of Screen Malta, Arts Council Malta, the Doha Film Institute, and the Ministry for Gozo, in association with Arte, Films Boutique, and Nizza Films.
