Alex Camilleri is in post-production on his directorial debut feature-film Luzzu, garnering support via the 2019 edition of the Les Arcs Film Festival.
Luzzu is one of 18 films selected to participate in the Work in Progress Les Arcs Industry Village, which saw a total of 143 applicants vying for a spot at this prestigious industry event. It is also the first Maltese feature-length film to be considered.
Luzzu is a neo-realist drama centering on the life of Maltese fisherman Jesmark. On a constant uphill struggle, Jesmark wants to change his family’s life for the better, but to do so he must take on a ruthless industry. A nuanced portrayal of Malta’s fishing trade and the people that inhabit it, Luzzu also received support from the Malta Film Fund and benefited from the cash rebate offered by the Malta Film Commission.
